I think we need further explanation from dana1028 the original poster. OK if the roof is not penetrated, I still can't imagine a

roof top panel as the source for these 12 AWG romex's. As for the load end of these wires flood lights come to mind. Conduit would have

been a better choice IMO. I think it is a tacky installation.

Did I miss something? I don't recall any mention of these cables exiting to go to something like a rooftop panel or an exterior light. That would be an issue with using NM cable, but only for the portion that actually leaves an interior location. I don't think that is what is being questioned in this thread. What is being questioned is the angle iron and the fact this will be embedded in the roof construction.

If these conductors are coming interior, run some distance on top of old roof that will be covered, then return to an interior location, there is nothing wrong with this installation. Even if it seems like hackwork, produce some NEC code sections that are in violation. Things like number of conductors in a raceway or bundle need considered, but the general concept of what is being done here has nothing wrong with it, we run NM cables in other "chases" many times.
