NM in commercial drop ceilings

We are doing a job in which drop ceilings will be installed in a commercial building. Now I understand the code as saying that NM can not be used in OPEN RUNS. But above the drop ceiling are 2x12 trusses in which I was hoping to bore through and run the NM through with out violating code requirements. Has anyone done this and is it legel or should I stick to MC cable the whole way? By the way I was going to only use the NM for my feeder cables then branch off using a J box with MC cable to feed my lights.
Thanks!

Re: NM in commercial drop ceilings

334.12 (2) Uses not permitted seems clear to me. So I say no. There is an amendment in the Massachusetts code though.

Good luck romeo

If you can see it, it is an open run.

Is it a tgi truss then there isn`t a problem with holes.

Re: NM in commercial drop ceilings

Would it comply with 334.10(3)(provide a thermal barrier of material that has at least a 15-minute finish rating as identified in listings of fire-rated assemblies)
