NM Types

NM-A is rated for 75 degrees
NM-B is rated for 90 degrees
NM-S (signalling)
SNM (sheilded NM)
NM-C (corrosive-resistant)

Other than NM-B, how many of these are still around and available?

NM-B is the standard off the shelf type of cable most people purchase on a daily basis.


NM-S is no longer commercially available. They have stopped producing it.


NM-C is still commercially available, but most supply houses do not stock it, you will have to have them special order it.

The only one I've never heard of is NM-A.
I've never seen NMS, SNM or NMC. I'm told that I better have my wallet out when I purchase a roll of NMC. :smile:

NM-A may be the original type of NM cable that had conductors rated for the 60C column, as opposed to the newer Type NM that has conductors rated for 90C. This Type of NM is no longer manufactured.

Pierre:I remember NMS coming in at the 1996 code cycle, but when did NM-B (90 degree) come into existence? I can't for the life of me remember. It really doesn't seem that long ago...like maybe the ? cycle:-?:smile:
