NMB and Masonary?

Here in Phoenix we don't see many cinder block homes. There is a 2x6 fur wall inside of all cinder block exterior walls. There are several exterior coach lights and when you penetrate the ussually hollow cinder block to travel the slight distance to the box (6in) do you need to sleeve penetration hole with pvc or use something elese? Also came across plastic electrical boxes with plastic L bracket for mounting on wall. Is masonary box required by code, in hollow cells etc as filled portions have already been filled?

i guess that would depend on your inspector. You must protect the cable from damage.

Masonry box is not necessary, IMO. I have used plastic nail on boxes and just made a big hole to recess the box. I have also used 4" sq boxes with 3/8" rings.

Plastic boxes ok. No sleves required. We don't use cinder block, we use real concrete blocks, not that wanta be stuff.

I believe they are talking about protecting the nm where it goes thru the hole in the block just above the box. As long as it is not subject to damage it's okay-- I bet some inspector would say it is abrasive and needs protection.

Maybe but I would think it is nothing more than a horizontal "fish" for the sake of arguement.

Appriciate all the insight. Was concerned changes would need to be made we'll see what the inspector says next Friday. Thank you.
 
We only have CBS construction.
I usually will install the exterior box surface mounted with a PVC connector out of the back for the romex.
If its recessed in the wall then just a romex connector
