No ACFI breakers in house built in 2016??

I was looking at real estate in Michigan the other day, and one of the houses was new construction, built in 2016. I couldn't help notice that there were NO arc-fault breakers at all, and the final inspection passed despite such. How on earth would the electricians have gotten away without using any AFCI breakers? I wonder if any (or all) the rest of the houses in the subdivision are the same way.

AFCI's are not required in Michigan in one and two family dwellings. Our state electrical division is great, and they use common sense. I can give you their number if you want to be sure about the house you looked at, but yeah, the entire sub-division is going to be that way.

If the Arc faults weren't installed at the time of the inspection and it passed inspection either they weren't required or the inspector didn't know they were required.

after the inspector left, the arc-fault breakers move to the next job

we have had to start marking them with our initials to see if they show up again

(I know does not apply to the OP but simply advising there is a third possibility for their absence)

MI has already been explained. Not all states are on the same code cycle or even use the same book. VA is on the 2012 IRC for residential (up until this July anyway) and AFCI are only required on bedroom outlets. It's unusual to see more than 3 AFCI breakers even in million dollar new construction homes here.
