Re: no bathroom receptacles

Just a quick question--- we all know what gauge fixture wire is used in those lighting fixtures with receptacles in them . Most of you have seen what that wire looks like when the h/owner uses that recpt. for their blow dryer. If you're called in by the h/owner to repair a socket in that fixture what would you do? Keep in mind that these fixtures, while still available for purchase ,are no longer UL listed for use here in the States..
Your ans. should be 1]repair the socket ,and dissconnect the recpt..Explain to the customer that the fixture is unsafe to use for appliances such as hair dryers etc. This is for their protection etc.. Offer the alternative of a gfi installation.

Ouch! How did that happen?

Did the GC miss it, or the EC?

Were there electrical plans drawn up for the quote?

Who has to eat the receptacle?

Re: no bathroom receptacles

mthead,

Of course there may still be some other types of fixtures on the shelves out there, but the ones I've seen recently with a receptacle have 12 awg wire tails on the outlet itself and the wiring is not joined to the fixture wires.

Re: no bathroom receptacles

Bill, Are they gfi protected? If they're for use in a bathroom ...,you know the rest.
