Bathroom, one circuit to GFCI receptacle feeding through to the second of two sinks. Both outlets within the required space.

Custom cabinets are being designed and the customer wants outlets in cabinets for battery chargers for grooming equipment. There would be about 5 total duplex receptacles.

I have a design / code question. If the circuit feeding the bathroom stays in the bathroom can the other outlets in the bathroom be on the same circuit?

Thanks and I look forward to your replies.

ceb, I disagree with the principle you're putting forward with your reference. If all these outlets are receptacle outlets within bathrooms (whether inside cabinets or not) then the main section of 210.11(C)(3) is being satisfied. There is no need to look to the exception, as there are no other outlets (lighting, kitchen, bedroom, foyer) on this circuit.

As long as the circuit does not leave the bathroom you can supply whatever (rec('s), lights, fan) is within the bathroom from that circuit.

1500 watt hair dryer -> 1500/120 = 12.5 A

Point, I think you also have to keep total branch circuit load in mind. I realize "grooming equipment" like shavers, etc. don't draw much current, but I think you have to keep total load in view.

My $0.02.

I had a good feeling I was going to be OK with this installation.

As I understand the concept behind the cabinet design, this is similar to an appliance garage in a kitchen. Customer wants "stuff" but does not want to "see stuff".

As long as that (fixed) vent fan dosen't also have a heater installed. If the load of the HLV unit is over 10 amps, it can't be on that dedicated bathroom circuit.

That's correct. The point I was trying to make is that you could supply anything within that bathroom, providing you didn't violate another code section. I assumed that was obvious. For example a hydromassage tub that requires a separate branch circuit couldn't go on with the rec's, lights, etc.

Have had master bathrooms that took 5 circuits. Some of the rich down here go crazy with bathroom. Many put large tubs in outside corner and then have clear glass windows on both sides looking out to the golf course ,i am not joking.

As a nitpicky design issue, it wouldn't be a bad idea to avoid this, to avoid lamp dimming, IMO. Customers are a nuisance. :)

I knew that you knew that. I posted because I've seen some jobs where the "electrician" didn't see the "obvious", and put everything (including the heat) on a single 20A circuit, even one with a hydromassage tub.
They must have read the exception to 210.11(C)(3) and not followed up with 210.23(A)(1) and (A)(2). Either that or they didn't read any of it.
The breaker had never tripped. I guess that the owner had never (yet) had the right combination of equipment going at the same time.
I'm constantly amazed at some of the (hack) work that I see.

What you can get away with and what works best are 2 horses of different colors.I do a walk through on customs and try to find out what the customer will want and use.On tract homes its hit the closest bathroom and jump the receptacle circuit from bath to bath.I`ve done customs where there were 4 bath receptacle circuits, alot of females in the home........I don`t like hitting a bathroom and staying within that bathroom since hair dryers, curlers etc will in most cases dim the lighting when used. This is my preferance and has worked so far.

Larry most dont even play the game.the ones who do wouldn`t notice anything going on in a bathroom overlooking the hole they were playing. All they want is the statue that they live in a golf ,gated, deed restricted community.I`ve seen where there was a $400.000.00 home where the person living in it had nothing but a beat up futonwith a trashy table and a plasma tv that they dont have to pay on for a year .WHILE ALL THEY HAVE IN THE GARAGE IS A 97 FORD FOCUS.Sad but true..

A generalization, to be sure. I know more than one 70-ish woman who still looks good.
