i've never installed a plastic box on new work, but i have seen a metal box cut into concrete siding rust out. i agree that wanting to use them 'because they last longer' is a very stupid reason. as far as cost though, it usually runs about $0.11 sq. ft. more to install metal.
 
Reminds me of a job where a flat roof was having "crickets" built to make pitches. To take advantage of the new space, the HO had us do a bunch of rewiring after the crickets were framed, before the sheathing went on, since it would be inacessable afterwords. The HO's father instructed her to tell us to use metal boxes, solder all the splices, then put on wirenuts over the solder, then tape over the wirenuts. He thought we were going to bury a bunch of j boxes inside the crickets.
