I have a project that the building owner inspector is indicating that on every electrical panel we need a decal that states "this building has non-metallic water piping".

Has anyone heard of this? And if so can you give me a reference?

Thanks

From Bryan's link

Something else to look for is the presence of a yellow or neon sticker on, or inside the electrical box of your home, indicating the presence of Kitec PEX pipe. This sticker is an alert to electricians that non-metallic pipe has been used to plumb the home, and therefore the pipe should not be used as a source for ground.

For one thing the NEC prohibits using a metal water line for grounding purposes any further then 5' from the point of the water line entrance.

Furthermore if an electrician can't tell a metal water line from a plastic water line then I doubt the sticker on the panel will mean much to them either.:roll:

Agreed, if you feel the need to bond to PVC, go to work for the Cable Co.

Many homes in Florida Have no grounding after the plumber comes along and repipes the house with cpvc. He cuts out all the copper and the ground rod rotted off years ago. The plumbing gods should require that an electrican should have to pull a permit to reground the house after a repipe job.
