It depends upon where you are located. In Chicago, type NM is not permitted at all. In one of the towns in Arizona, you are not permitted to build a home without it being sprinkled.
To answer you question though, the NEC does not require a sprinkled building. Therefore you may wire a double or even a quad with type NM.
