Nonsensical fuse ratings

Why do they do this? I can't get 42A fuses! Obviously I can install 40s but for some reason this bugs me.

42 amp a standard size elsewhere in the world? These units are sold all over the world AFAIK.

Bet it never has a problem on a 40 amp breaker unless something actually is wrong with it.

Well probably so but also a calculation that likely says to either round up or down to a standard size with the final result.

42 amp is available both as a fuse and a cb. But maybe not in the brands/models you are used to. I suspect it is a calculation that results in a max number.

I can see that. Also I have rarely or even never seen an HVAC unit made for North American market that didn't have such marking as a NEC standard size overcurrent device which of course 42 is not one of those.

maybe the mitsubishi company is coming out with a new circuit breaker that come with dial-in settings like magnetic overloads?

oh man, there's my next billion-dollar-idea. one breaker for 10-30a, one for 31-60, one for 61-100. i can see my shelves getting simpler already. just like brightness and color selectable led lights and lamps.
