These are some photos from a job I was called to look at today. The pine tree is about 60ft tall. Lightning struck the tree, ran down the tree and followed a plastic drain line with water in it to the gutter. Still cant find part of the gutter. The lightning arced to the telephone line causing the smoke damage to the soffit. The lightning also went under the house and "danced" melting the plastic vapor barrier about 5ft back from the foundation wall down the full length of the house. So far we know the AC unit is gone, refg.,TV,computer, microwave and garage door opener are toast also. Have about 9-10 recpt. blackened and about 5 switches. The fire marshall had the meter pull and will not allow power back on the home until its gone through and inspected. Time to break out the megger. Now its a wait on the insurance company game.

I will add, and it is hard to see, but the photo of the tree and house, the lightning dug a trench about 4" deep and it is about 40ft from the tree to the house.
The lightning arced from the gutter to the phone line
