Look at your electric toaster, frying pan, clothing iron, and other portable appliances.

Why do they not have a 3/wire cord?

Re: not grounded 3 prong outlets installed

Our microwave oven, deep fryer for household use, mixer and our carpet cleaner which spends all it's time in any room but the kitchen, all these have 3 wire cords.

Are you suggesting I should get one of those gray 2 way to 3 way "adapters"? :)

Grounding should be eliminated?

No Bob, I'm not saying to discontinue grounding. I am saying to not ground indiscriminately when it serves no useful purpose.

The only appliances, I have, with a 3 wire cord are, washing machine, micro-wave oven, refrigerator, and this computer.

Re: not grounded 3 prong outlets installed

I would never tell a customer they must change every outlet to grounding type but you can bet I would suggest it so they are not limited to where they can plug in the few grounding type cords they have.

How much they want to spend is up to them.

But every one the customer asked and paid for to be changed to grounding type would have a ground wire on it.

Which was not the case in the opening post.

Bennie,
Please understand that most of us were taught to "ground, ground, always GROUND!!"
Of course, we were also taught other silly things like "Smoking kills", Seatbelts save lives", "Make love not war".
Have patience with us. :D

PS Glad to hear you got that article. I hope it helped.

Re: not grounded 3 prong outlets installed

Hopefully this is along the same lines.A friend called me about an electrical inspection that was done by a contractor. The contractor has stated that throughout the house all non-grounded receptacles that have a 3 prong outlet installed are to be changed back to a 2 prong outlet. Not fed from GFCI or GFI breaker. What are his options?
