Why not, does your state use the NEC? If not why all this debate?
I think he meant that a change to the NEC at the local level would not cross the CMP's desk, so it wouldn't be relevant to the discussion, Mike. :)

I would imagine The required wall switch for the lamp was to prevent one from stumbling around and tripping over some toy or teenager that fell asleep in the middle of the living room floor.
I was not aware that the NEC required the switch to be next to the door. Or even in the same room for that matter.

Sure a switch can be anywhere to a point. There is the 6 riser rule that comes into play but in a single story residense all that is required is a switch or a motion sensor to control the lighting outlet.Oh did i say lighting outlet ????That would mean a luminare/fixture might have to be installed or might not !!!!!! Ok I`m being one of those guys yes..........No offense Tallgirl you have become one of THE GUYS !!!!!

Only when the switch controls a stairway light.

I can put the light switch for my second floor bedroom light in the first floor living room if I want.

Doubt I'll get many repeat customers. :D

yes Bob the stairway light must be controlled from the applicable landing.Let`s not get into the 3way thing again. But any other light can be controlled from anywhere.Do I agree with this No.I feel that there should be a switch within arms reach from the door. But the NEC says that is not the case.

It's a deal. :)

Lets not fix what is not broken.

I doubt any ECs are trying to put the switch miles from the entry.

But as soon as the NEC makes a rule that says the switch must be in a certain spot we will start running into conditions that make it difficult to comply with.

As it is now it seems most ECs make an attempt to place the switch in a logical location. :)

OK Bob I agree with that train of thought. As far as the 3 way thing goes it has ben hashed, rehashed and re re hashed so we`ll leave it be.....
