IMO, the NEC is using common sense on this issue.

Just because there may be 100 receptacles on one circuit doesn't mean there will be an appliance plugged into each of them. The number of appliances will be the same as it would be in any room(s).

It is much safer to allow an unlimited number of receptacles on a single circuit than to have the end user run cheap extension cords to accomodate the furniture layout.

I agree, If you install the required number of outlets they wont be more than 12 feet apart . What is everybody thinking ? That if you put the outlets closer people are going to run out and by more things to plug in ? Thats crazy.People are going to plug in what they need if they have to use a multi outlet of some kind

Actually Wattgates are over rated. I use Hubbells. Good stuff and much better than 22 cent Levitons. P&S are absolute junk at any price. The customers pay for what they get and a few extra bucks for quality receptacles hasn't put any of them in bankruptcy yet. If I can find a better product than Hubbells I will start using them. Better quality that is, not better advertisement.

FWIW, I tell customers that if they are looking for the lowest bid I won't be it and suggest the don't waste my time by putting in a bid they won't accept. Most of the time I only do T&M work as that is the fairest to both myself and the customer. By the same token, I don't choose doctors by those with the lowest prices. Instead I look for the best performance records.

There is plenty of room for all of us to have our own standards. I actually thank the code minimum contractors for giving me business to correct their errors in judgment. You code minimum guys are actually free advertisement for my and my counterparts that take pride in their work. Not many electricians like going behind the lowest legal installers but I do as part of my repertoire is found to be quite entertaining for the customer.

Just out of curiosity, how long have you been doing residential electrical contracting and wiring?

I was going to ask how long he's been doing stand up comedy. Let me guess, aluminum is only good for beer cans............

Didn't you see he only charges T&M, so my guess is as long as possible.

Yeah, he must just do service calls.
Most every body I tell Time and Material. They want to know how long it will take and how much for materials. What's the use?

That just supports my opinion that many electricians are full of themselves.
JMSO - one must be a premidonna slightly to even think of entering this trade - since there is so much to know that no one person can - you at least have to fool yourself into thinking you know something in order to walk out the door every morning.:D

Yes, we are the all knowing. AND PROUD OF IT!
When you look around a job at all the collective trades there are a handful of "highly skilled trades" the rest just need a backbone and some muscle and a good leader to give directions. Training is limited to the job interview. :D
