Can anyone tell me what standard(s) defines nurse call systems. More specifically, in a series of bathrooms, located in and around an infusion (Chemo) area, the architect wants to have the nurse call button control a light just outside the bathroom.

Is this acceptable OR do these need to tie into the Nurse Call system?

Thanks,

Mike

The common way would be to have both. The button would tie into a nurse call panel which would alarm at the nurses desk and at any duty stations.

The nurse call panel would also turn on a light above the toilet room so the nurse can quickly locate the right toilet room. And also, any nurses just walking by would see the light. (here I am assuming the door to the toilet room is out in a corridor. If the toilet room is inside a patient room, there is usually a light outside the patient room.)

In a toilet room, you usually want a pull chain switch with the chain (or string) hanging within 2" of the floor.
