In reviewing of Chapter 517, I am looking for the answer to this question: "If approved drawings require Hospital Grade 'MC' cable to be run to all of the suites in the Memory Loss Care area of this nursing home, do the receptacles all need to be Hospital Grade?" FYI - Building Code lists this area as an I-2 (Condition 1). Can someone direct me to that NEC code section requirement, if it is required?

I can't but I can tell you to read 517 carefully and find out the designation of the receptacles in question. As in are they in a "patient bed location" I think they will be by what you said and the article would then be 517.19. If so, then, hospital grade is required at the bed, not necessarily at other locations, however any spec I have ever read regarding areas like this, has required them all to be hospital grade.

Note that flexible wiring means are basically prohibited for Emergency systems, see 517.30(C)(3)

So this article was brought to my attention. In the last paragraph of the article, the third last sentence starts with "Based on the information provided, use of hospital-grade receptacles is optional and not a requirement for the examining rooms in question because there are no bed locations (as defined) in these rooms."
I think the bold print above still leaves a question mark.

If the rooms are only treatment rooms they do not require HG receptacles. If they are patient bed locations or in an area described by 517.61(C)(2) then they need to be.
