NYC Street Lighting

I am involved with the lighting design for a project in Queens NY where the local utility provided will be providing power to the light fixtures. The utility rep has told me that the power supplied will be 120V with (2 hot, 1 neutral). Is it possible to provide 120V with two hot wires? I thought 1 hot and 1 neutral would do the trick. Also woudn't 2 hot wires and 1 neutral provide 240V?

Some street lights feed from both ends. I am not experienced in this but I know what your describing is not uncommon.

is he givin you two 120 feeds from the same phase ? ... funny there not 480 or 277..

could be 120 V fed from different sources, same phase, or same source with each 120 V 180 degrees out of phase.

Some utility guys make mistakes, just like us.

Ask him if the lighting is 120V and they are supplying 120/240V, 3-wire system.

Remember, Con Edison, the POCO uses the grounded conductor as the fault current path for return.
