Good afternoon,

To size an overcurrent protection device for a pump @ Rated voltage 208V, Rated Current 11.9A, and Staring current 76.8A. Should the starting current be used for sizing OCPD or the Rated current. I thought are if you use the rated current, the device would trip every time you start the pump. Also to account for the load (wattage) on the panel schedule, which current (Staring or Rated )should be used.

IIn most cases You should size the GFSC protection from Tables. See 430.6, Tables 430.247-251 & 430.52
Overload protection should be size from the nameplate. See 430.32

Motor overcurrent protective device are based on percentage of the value from T.430.248, .249, .250. That percentage is determined by T. 450.52

Are you asking about motor overload or overcurrent protection? There are two different sets of answers in this thread.
