I have to hook up a piece of equipment shipped from Europe. It's 173V/300V three phase, five wire. I'm wondering if it's code compliant to use a L22-30R and L22-33P for the recept and plug. These are 480/277 rated devices, three phase, N & ground.

Any thoughts?

Mine: As long as the configuration is not used elsewhere in the building, you should be okay.

I'm more interested in how you're getting the voltages you need. Special transformer?

Yes, a special transformer was installed in the building, actually three of them wired in WYE to get the voltages. This was done during a massive remodel when the local university bought the building for research work. The panel is a 600V rated panel as is the fused disconnect.

I used to work in a large industrial plant for several years where we had alot of european equipment, mostly 380 Volt. We found it to be less confusing to use non-nema recepticles with the Euro voltages and clearly mark them (painted the box and tagged it). That way we didn't have people trying to plug American machines into the Euro recepticles. Not sure how legit that is, but it seeemed to work.
