I believe that the moderators do a great job of managing the integrity of this forum and I applaud them for their service, however I do wish that on occasion that "Off Topic" discsussions be allowed to continue such as issues with the housing crisis, economy, gas prices, whatever. While some discussions are just damaging, degrading, and are simply not relevant and should be closed, some of these discussions indirectly do effect our jobs and businesses, and are of concern to many of us.

So my question is this, would it be a good idea to have a "Off topic" place where these threads could be moved to, to allow us with common concerns and thoughts to continue these discussions. PM messages are ok, but dont get the ideas and comments from the mass of this forum....

I'm thinking no.

I don't think that would benefit the purpose of this forum.

The purpose of this forum as I see it:

To assist professionals in electrical related fields in performing their trade by expanding their knowlege in management, safety, troublshooting, code interpratation and enforcement, for the purpose of advancing the quality of our industry.

I think that's enough.

This Forum claims to be Electrical Contracting and Estimating/Management ( safety, troublshooting, code interpratation and enforcement) are all in different areas of this site, for some reason.

When anyone brings up a real issue that had impact on our contracting business, someone flags it, and claims it;ss the rules, so who needs a site, that is sends any discussion that the word police find a problem witn, to the relocation never never land.

Have no fear this site will never discuss the real problems or issues in the trade.

Mule, in the past a General Discussion area has been discussed but decided against, as said by the others, there are other forums that do have OT areas, it just doesn't fit here.

Some of the problems we could discuss is why we don't ave enough business and the solution could be something other than technical in nature but easily solved, at no cost.

And that would be allowed as far as a business discussion.

It goes over the top when we start veering into saving the world or straightening out the overall economic crisis.

I think the mods do a very good job here. They give us a certain amount of leeway in our discussions and suffer through our sometimes less than stellar attempts at humor, but the bottom line is that this is an electrical code forum. There are lots of other places to discuss the worlds problems.

On occasion, I disagree, but in general, I fully respect that decision, and I thank you for your response.

You could still use the PM function to continue a particular discussion. Not exactly the open forum but an option nevertheless.
