I have a customer that is replacing the non wired offices cubes with half as many wired ones (circuit load isnt an issue). The current office wiring is cellular under floor with "doghouse" receptacles, and minimal to no 120 volt power in the ceiling.

So my question is this, since the 4 cubes with 1 duplex each are prewired, can I terminate the factory whip into a "1900" box, and add a tail with a 5-20 straight blade cord cap on it ?.

Just want an opinion, and maybe the code section that forbids this.

thank you all

Thank you! I think the doghouse is on it's own circuit, and 2 ft of SO cord is doable. Just needed a plan as this is happening Monday. The old cubes are coming down and the new ones going in, the client who is a VERY good customer wants this done Monday.

Now to dig out the "low voltage" tool set as I also have to retrim the network cabling.

BTW, Loved you little Christmas story! That was great!

More typical would be to replace the duplex with a "furniture feed" cover (a blank plate with a 3/4" knock out), and terminate the furniture whip in the floor pedestal.

Nobody will be happy if someone unplugs a couple of cubicles.

I had thought of that , BUT I think the floorduct is old (1986) WALKERDUCT....... I am trying not to have to find parts that old on short notice. I guess an alternative could be to fabricate that [plate out of sheet metal, or (if there is room) cut a knockout in the nearest doghouse.

At least I now have alternatives, and can figure out the best option on site Monday
