Replacing HVAC units and was wondering if I were to take the guts out of the old disconnect switches can I splice wires there and use it as a J-box? Is there a code you can reference if this is not acceptable?

Acceptable, but you might need to screw the door shut.
Thanks LarryFine!

Another question for you- can LFMC be longer than 6ft? For some reason I thought there was a code limiting to 6ft but not finding it in Article 350.

These are for connecting HVAC units in on a flat roof.

If the distance is over 6' how about you put part of it in RMC? Then there are no worries. I know in Industrial settings there is a prohibition of running liquitite fmc over 6'. International Electrical Code E3908. 9.2 Liquid-Tight Flexible Metal Conduit says not over 6' in length.
