Nope-- not high at all but it would depend on the premise-- you could be low. I get about $100- 120 here in NC

"The price is too high" objections really have nothing to do with the actual price. It has more to do with you; your appearance, your speech, your sales pitch, your professionalism, your knowledge, your truck, etc.

Recessed lights are a commodity item unless you also sell your heart and soul as part of the deal, so to speak.

Here is the situation this old timmer who throws me a referal here and there asked me to "help out an old customer" im like ok then he tells me he always charges t&m 65 an hour and its a three hour job so on one hand im slow on the other 65 an hour for 6 OW cans in a kitchen replace decora recepts and convert a 240v electric range out let to a 110v seems well ummm opinions ??

Again it depends on how difficult it is .. I have installed 4 recessed cans with a switch with attic access in 4 hrs. That includes drive time and pulling up some attic floor. It was a nice attic to work in for the most part.

I don't think 120 is low at all. I also have been told to always stick to your price. My dad makes a discount available to every customer. If they want a discount they have to pay within 5 days.

so if you don't think it's low at all then it must be closer to the high side eh? You're an apprentice right?

I am an apprentice. I did however say that wrong. I don't think it's too high. Sorry about that. I think 120 is actually low or at the very least middle of the road around here.

Could you elaborate on this principle some more?

People buy on emotion, not intellect. If you get a reply other than a sale, ie. let me talk to my husband, your price is to high, let me think about it, you did not fulfill their emotional need. Your shirt was the wrong color, they wanted someone that drives a nicer truck, You didn't make them comfortable with you. Price has very little to do with sales.

How about a face full of piercings, that should be a real selling point.

remodel can work always has to be based on access and availability of patchwork for access.
If they are willing to do minimal patchwork your price is a little high, if you have hard access and they do not want to do any patchwork at all I think you lowballed yourself.
The last remodel job I did was 150 a can, we had a cove we were able to remove and cut access into the ceiling (space between main and 2nd floor), and into the wall for the switch. We did did well on that job money wise.
On the other hand I just recently did a job that we cut in 12 cans with hard access and lots of fishing and old wood lathe plaster that took over 2 days and the final bill was over three grand- fortunatley TnM.

I agree I almost always charge $100. each plus the lights and material.
Some times they will suprise you and want brass eyeball trims.

But, I always tell the customer that I would have to see it first. Before I can give a price. That way they can see my truck. ;)

I'm assuming you wear the correct shirt also.
