Older home electrical problems?

Hey, My name is Michael, and I found this forum online, I was searching for help due to my current electrical problems in my home. House was built in the early 70's, we moved in just under a year ago and been noticing some problems with my home electric. seems to be narrowed down to the kitchen when we have the micro or any other small device on it sometimes sends a surge through a part of my house.. I've been calling local electricians and one of them asked me what my ampage was on my main fuse, he said that could be the problem. Just wanted to ask you guys what does it sound like to you (since I really don't know anything about this)
