Pierre if my comments could be of any help feel free to use them. After 32 years in a trade that while others struggled to make ends meet,I was still doing alright. So that would be fine for me to raise my hand.

Re: On being an inspector

If a man drinks too much and then drives his car into a tree, he will have paid the price for his own mistake. But drunk drivers can also cause suffering to people who did not make the same mistake. In our business, the person who makes a wiring mistake is almost never the person who eventually gets injured because of that wiring mistake.

In my view, the Inspector's primary job is to protect the innocent from the incompetent.

The biggest upside to that job is that every time you write up a violation, and later sign it off as having been corrected, you walk away knowing that you might have just saved someone's life. The biggest downside is that you will never know that someone's name.

Re: On being an inspector

Inspectors are just one member of the project team that constructs a building.

No one team member is more important than the other. If one team member fails in his responsibility, it has an effect on the entire project.

Respect and a good looking job go a long way towards a strong relationship with an inspector. You can be a jerk and fight with your inspector or you can work with him. It is usually your choice
