I have one generator, Briggs & Stratton, that I am tying into a duplex. I am using the Generac Generator Ready Panel in each duplex to segregate the circuits that I want backed up by the generator. Control issues have all been worked out so that the panel makes the switch when the generator starts. I had originally planned on coming out of a generator disconnect on the outside with the 240VAC power and going to the "generator" breakers in each panel. This part I am ok with. I had also planned on taking the generator neutral to each panel. However, I realized that this could be a bad idea. Under normal operating circumstances, some current could flow through the generator neutral wiring between the panels. This would really present a problem if the Utility neutral in the panel became loose. My solution is to tie the generator neutral to one panel and let the normal utility neutral(s) carry the neutral current from the second panel back to the first panel and to the generator. There are two gang meters in these units where the utility neutrals are tied together. Anyone see anything wrong with this solution?
