One of the travelers of a 3 way was tapped for power to a receptacle

I found this on amazon, will this work. They had a lot of options!

If the power comes in at the rear door, then all you need is the Caseta, Pico remote, wall bracket kit.
If this is a multi-gang switch box, then he would need to get a wall plate that matches the switch type.
Example: toggle-Decora
or if more than two

The power does enter a 2 gang box at the rear door. I appreciate all of the information. I am going to try to convince him to do it this way.

I have never installed or seen in person one of these switches. I found some online diagrams, but from what i have seen, you connect the black traveler conductor with the black conductor ( to the light) to a short jumper wire( that comes with the switch) to the common of the existing mechanical 3 way at the top of the stairs., Would there be continuous power at that connection or in the red conductor because I need continuous power for the receptacle next to the switch at the top of the stairs. Once I do one of these switches, It all should make sense to me. At lease I hope it will. Lol

You don't need to do it that way as you are doing away with the mechanical switches.
Rear door gets replaced with the Caseta, it just wires like a single pole switch. You don't buy the Caseta for a 3-way, just a single location. The Caseta may come as both a 3-way and single location (can't remember). If it does, just wire it for a single location.

Top of stairs 3-way is done away with, wiring from load side (tied to the traveler) along with the neutral, just gets tucked in the back of the box
Pico remote just mounts on box with the wall adapter. No actual wiring goes on the Pico as it's just a remote to the wireless Caseta.
