Re: Online Version Of Code

Go to the NFPA site and choose the "Join NFPA" in the top, right hand part of the page. After joining the NFPA, when you log into the site and go to the home page, "NFPA 70 Access" will be on the left hand side of the page as an online subscription. This will be available to you as long as you are a member. :D

Re: Online Version Of Code

Lets see give them $135 and i can view it free ;)
Yep that makes it free alright.
Then again it can be down loaded from limewire, and limewire is free

Re: Online Version Of Code

Jim, this is not pointed at you but your comment hit a pet peeve of mine.

There are a lot of great organizations out there that have something to offer that seems like that is what they are about. For instance, the IAEI puts out a great publication but that is not what the organization is about. They also support members on every NEC Code making panel and most of the other panels at the NFPA (not bad for a non-profit organization). They develop educational materials and provide education for the inspectors and whomever attends their meetings. The list goes on but you get the idea.

The American Legion also puts out a publication. Is that all they do? Think about where I am going here.

The NFPA is also a nonprofit organization that puts out a lot of different publications and supports its safety efforts with the sale of those publications and gets some income from dues. I have no problem supporting the IAEI, the American Legion, and the NFPA with my dues. I do have a problem with stealing their work whether the lawsuits come out for or against them. :D

The NEC is a copyrighted publication, and it is not free. But if you are looking for the least expensive way to get a copy, you could try an on-line shopping site. I'm not endorsing any site in particular, but I will say that I bought my 2002 version (hard copy) via eBay.

You don't have to use the NEC. its a voluntary standard. There is nothing stopping you from writing the JWEC, setting up 19 code panels, proposals, comments and then publishing it.

Re: Online Version Of Code

Yea. And when you get it published, be sure to post a URL to its location, so the rest of us can download it for free. :D

Re: Online Version Of Code

So how does a non profit outfit get hurt if it is aquired for free ? I am sorry but i don't subscribe to them not for profit companies. No profit just 200 grand a year for the pressident 125 for vice president, yea right no profit if they pay it all out .They only print it with the idea that 99% require it.It would cost less than $1 per viewer if on a web page.It is high time this gets fixed and i hope i just caused 1,000 to go down load it for free.Any law should be free to read. This should never been a private buisness.

Where do get the voluntary idea from ? If my local ahj as well as almost 99 % of all others adopt it ,then i MUST follow it.where is the choice ? So they could name any price,$500 per copy and either i buy it or cant wire.Chaulk up one more for Hitler.NFPA planned this scam real good

Re: Online Version Of Code

Here is an idea, ask around tommorow and see just how many fellow workers have a copy of 2002.Maybe if it was available at a fair price more would buy it.Yes i have my copy both in cd and binder but many dont

Re: Online Version Of Code

Jim
What about all of the tools you buy? Based on your post they should also be free.

What most people still do not grasp is that the code book, whether the NEC or the ICC, or whatever, is a tool. When used properly it can help the user make a lot of money.
