Look at what my wife discovered this morning when she went out to feed the horses:

Littleone.jpg

The lengths she will go to, to skip out on my parents' 40th Anniversary party today! :p

She woke me up, all excited, and started telling me all about it - "George! $$$$! Vet bills! $$$$$$$", or something, that's what I heard, at least. :D

I better get out there and check on things, now. Okay, so I guess I am a little bit excited...

Ah!!!!!!! What a surprise !!!!!! Horses a Vet's dream! Had a few show jumpers myself. They are a joy to have enjoy the foal and you better get back to work cause the vet bills are coming.

PS: If your a nice guy you would give the mare a bath ( In the back area ) next time you take a photo. The mare want's a front view photo not the rear view ! LOL

Yeah, well, I guess I better get back out there and do that.

The little guy couldn't have come at a worse time, we're scheduled for 100 degree heat the next few days and I have 1 stall. The mare and foal are getting it. Not much shade beyond that. :(

They will be OK. Got any power out by the stall? A nice fan would work wonders for them. ( or a nice AC unit if you have a lot of $$$$$$$ )
How are the nasty fly's I am sure you got plenty of them (maybe add to the AC unit a fly spray system ) Boy George you got a lot of work cut out for yourself.

Good suggestion! I'll get a fan out there now! :)

I finally figured out he's a boy!

The complimentary bum wash for the mare didn't go over too well. I figure I'll let her be until the wife gets back. :D

I'll be back... :D

Thanks George for the news. Just like on the job, its not all about the job.
One of my coworkers has two horses, nice stalls and land. But his consuming interest is riding dirt bikes. And now he is considering getting a road bike.
Seems like a lot, but to each his own...

Here is a slideshow. The gray arabian is the daddy.

I got the fan up, but I'm thinking maybe they're avoiding the barn now on account of it. We'll see what shakes down. :)

Put the fan on low and take the mare in and grain her in the stall she will get use to the fan.
We had fans on the stall doors all summer. At least it keeps the air moving. We also hosed them off 2 or 3 time a day in hot weather. Also turned them out at night.

Congrats to the mom! And to the vet, s/he'll get a few more boat payments out of this. :)

She planned it, women are smart like that. She knew if she went to the party, she'd just have to help dig that new trench to the table saw barn. My guess is she had a good chat with the mare before going to bed last night. :)

Here is a video of him walking out to see his momma:

I was looking at them (in between snapshots :D ), and it's truly amazing. His legs are as long as hers, today. It's crazy to think something that big was inside her. I mean, sure, she was big as a house, but...wow!

You took the words right out of my mouth. I did that shortly after checking in last. Worked all right. It took grain, too - treats didn't budge her. It was more the "I'm too hot to think" as opposed to "I'm scared of the fan", though. We had a fan in there last summer, so it wasn't much news to her. I did an exceptional professional installation, too - complete with the twine bracket. :)

Congratulations?

Is that the right thing to say here?

I did not even recognize the word 'foal' until I read the post.
Come on out, bring the kids, I'll even let you pet him. :D

Nice george. I hope he grows up healthy

I don't know about vet bills, do they have health insurance for that?

My wife had horses before we got married. We have four kids between us.

She wishes she stuck with horses. I think I agree even though I never owned a horse.

George

Remember that the more time you spend with this colt over the next few months doing such things as picking up its feet and playing with its ears the easier it will be two years down the road.

Be sure to spend a whole lot of time with him when you take him from his mom in about five to six months from now.

Imprinting that human are good in his mind now will make sitting on his back easy. Letting him run and have his way now will imprint that it will be alright to do in two years.

You have the right to be a proud poppa and I will be by to get my cigar sometime in the near future.

Here is a link to someone that I think is the best when it comes to horses. He lives close to you. I have been using his techniques for years and have never had a problem from a horse. I have seen John several times but his son Josh only twice.

You probably already knew these things but I wanted to say something just to let you know how proud I am of you, Pops. Take good care of your new son and he will give you many years of pleasure.

Oh yea, be sure to give him a big hug from his uncle Mike.
.

George: Quick question. I know your up to your knees in @@#%$ but
Would the colt be considered 1 HP or 1/2 HP or not any HP maybe PP

FYI ----PP is pony power! I say about 200 watts or so!
Hope he doing good today! Get him used to carrots

He's learned how to trot. :)

FC, Why carrots?

Mike, thanks for the advice. I do appreciate it.

Larry, they sell insurance for anything - when my wife was working at the vet clinic, they recommended insurance for cats and dogs. :D

Chris, I wouldn't be surprised in the least.

Tom, I wish I had money for a good motorcycle. I keep spending it all on animals! :D

Ron, I'm still not ready for diapers. Maybe in a few more years. :)

Well, today he met Mr. Rattlesnake. :(

He's got a 50% chance of making it, since he was bit in the leg, not in the face, as often happens. If he had gotten struck in the face, he probably wouldn't nurse, drink, etc, much less breathe.

So, Mr. Rattlesnake found himself on the action end of a 12-gauge shotgun wielded by none other than my Annie-Oakley-esque better half, who despite not knowing exactly how to chamber a round, managed to sever it's head from fifteen feet in basically one shot.

So, it's wait and see at this point. I am hopeful. :)
