IMO, if you are going to do the job then do it right. Use the larger cable and always allow for some growth.

I agree Dennis an we do 90% of the time but price out 8-2 LV cable somewhere around $450.00 for 500 ft roll and sometimes it can take 2 - 500 ft rolls.

Tell me about it. I did a job where I ran 8/2 LV cable over 1000 feet in total. The homeowner has to pay for what they wanted. He had fixtures that were LV and took 50 watt MR 16. Heck 6 fixtures and you have 300 watts. The max you can go with 300 watts is 125 feet with 8/2.

What voltage are you working with? I show a 17.9% drop for 300 watts at 24 volts using 125' of #8

Sorry I read the wrong chart-- 150watts is good only to 125' with 8/2
250 watts will only do 100 feet with 8/2.
