I have some outdoor lights a customer wants me to install in his back yard. Im going to grab power off an existing outlet and go to a switch i am installing. Whats the best route low voltage lighting or should i just keep it 120/ 208? If i go low voltage does a transformer run cheap or is that gonna cost my customer? I wants to install the lights on the ground around the perimiter of a putting green. I want to bury the cables underground and it will have no concrete or asfault to go under where the wires or raceway will need to go.

Transformer will cost money, how much depends on size and other factors.

if you do with less then 30 volts - table 300.5 requires less burial depth in general then for higher voltages, or doesn't need to be in raceway or protected by 2 inches of concrete in some shallow depths that are allowed, or require GFCI protection in some cases - so keep some of those related cost in mind when making such decision.

If you do low voltage the transformer could act as your switch, timer, dusk to dawn, etc. If it is quite a distance away you might want to go with #10 landscape light wire. If you did line voltage you could give him an outlet out there also if he needed it. The lv landscape lights are all over the place in cost, cheap in the box stores and five times as much at a lighting store. The good line voltage lights are also expensive and would usually require those short posts that go in the ground and you can thread the light into it. The better low voltage lights might have a threaded stem also. As mentioned the digging is a big issue with me. The way I read the chart 6" with the lv and 12" if GFI protected with the line voltage. Have fun:)

looking for the least expensive way of landscape lightin? what he spent all his money on the private putting green? :jawdrop:seriously confusing

He wants landscape lighting but has spent all his money, so he wants it done for free if possible:happyyes:
