Outdoor Switchboard/ Switchgear Top Entry Conduits

Hello every one,

I'm working on a project where the owner wants us to install an outdoor switchboard (or switchgear) to serve some existing loads inside the building. Can we install overhead conduits (top entry) to a NEMA 3R enclosure? I just thought we are not allowed to drill through the enclosure for conduits entry. thanks,

Sure. Myers hub, sealing locknuts, or rain tight EMT connectors are your choices. Myers would be the best IMO.

The code will permit that installation, but if I was writing the specs, top entry would be prohibited.

no problem.

I kind of prefer coming in through the bottom, but as long as whatever water comes in through the conduit has a place to drain out, it is fine.

coming in from top of a junction box with no components inside. fine by me

switchgear? i would not suggest it.
