I recently completed a job that involved some recessed lights and a few new surface lights. The homeowner told me they were going to have the ceilings scraped, but, when I got here to meet tthe inspector I noticed they added a layer of drywall instead of scraping. Now, three of my light fixture boxes are 1/2" deep. 314.20 says for non combustible ceilings, boxes employing a "flush-type cover or faceplate" must be setback no more than 1/4". Does a light fixture constitute a "flush type COVER or FACEPLATE?
