Does The Nec Allow Me To Install More Than 13 Outlet Openings Per 20 Amp Circuit. I.e Connecting Three Bedrooms On Same Arc Fault Branch Circuit. Or Can I Install As Many As Nec. Require Per Sq. Ft. Allowance. Residential. Thanks, Ronball

In a dwelling unit the NEC sets no limit on the number of receptacles on a circuit. Of course there are limits on lighting outlets based on the fixture wattages.

I limit mine to about 200, + or - of course.

Check 220.14.J.1 to 3 NEC 2008

That's for your load calculations, and does not limit to a specific number how many outlets on a circuit.

FWIW, I recall years ago someone calculated a mathematical limit of something like 14,000 outlets, based on each splice would lose so much power. Don't know what load (12-, 15-, 16-, 20- amp, etc) it was based on, but it was done to simply show there's a physical limit.

. . . show there's a physical limit.

That's why I quoted it. Should have been clearer.

My first code class a few couple many years ago, the engineer teaching the class said theoretically that if you knew the exact loads/receptacle the number of receptacles could be any number based on the loads. It's all hypothetical.

On the houses we usually do work on, we stop at 1-? rooms for the receptacles. They aren't cookie cutter/track homes.

Use good judgement, if they keep triping its you they calling. When i was doing houses the master was on its own and number 2 and 3 bed room shared.Add a couple more for living room and kitche and 1 for garage. No set rules but its your reputation at stake.
