overcurrent protection

I have a yogurt machine that has a nameplate rating of 18a min. ckt amp and a 25 amp max brkr protection can I run # 12 conductors by table 310-16 or do I need to have 10awg wire the motors in the machine have thermals on the contactors.

Check out 240.3 and see if it meets any of those requirements.

You must protect conductors according to 310.15.

On the related threads it seems that I can run # 12's since the amp, is only 18 and the wire is good for 25 amps.

how is the machine connected to it's branch circuit ? hard wired ?

it is cord connected.

there could possibly be varying opinions on this but, to me, if it's cord and plug connected and you used a 25 amp, then I would think that you needed a #10 wire and 30 amp receptacle. With a receptacle there, on a 25 amp breaker, it would be available for apparatus rated more than the 20 amp #12 limitation.
