Hello,
It's me again. I am replacing an exisiting MCC (installed in 1960's) with a new MCC. However, per customer requests, there are pieces of equipment that doesn't get updated. HVAC, circulation pumps for example and one of them happens to be this overhead crane. All I know is that it is a 50 ton crane. The problem is that the original company American Crane and Hoist out of California went out of business and all I have are serial numbers for the hoist motors, clutches and gear box. Euclid crane can't help because they don't file their motors by serial numbers.

So my question is how much power can I estimate this 50 ton crane is pulling? It runs at 480V off of the original MCC but that's all I know. The original single line just shows that it is fed from a 125A breaker. I'm trying to keep a tally of all the loads on the MCC so as not to exceed the 500 KVA transformer feeding the MCC.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

Where is the control for the Crane, in the MCC? If there is anything that will kick a contactor's but it is a crane control application. Have you ever seen on of those pushbutton control pendants where the guy is walking along punching that thing a thousand times a minute it seems? It is a recipe for welding contacts. I have supplied a lot for P&H cranes and had to replace a size 5 contactor in a new MCC installation of mine for a hoist the raises and lowers a ladle with a vacuum contactor for a continuous caster in an LTV steel mill. Standard contactor don't do well when they a plugged a lot.

Consider a vacuum contactor which this may be an excellent application for.

Just a thought

No there isn't any nameplate data. I have pictures of the crane and the crane controls..oddly enough the crane controls does says P&H :)

I tried to attach pics but couldn't get it to work. The existing single line shows a tap off of the 125a breaker to feed a 115 motor for the control console. So don't worry about the loading of this crane?:?
