I need to add one light pole in a commercial parking lot, and would rather do a triplex drop than cut and dig. Anyone have experience with how well the pole withstands the side load from the drop? I'm fairly confident that the pole (estimating 20' hi w/4 "shoebox" heads) is strong enough, but wanted some input.

thanks

And it's not just electrical.

I once did an auto dealer's lot with several poles. So guess where they hung the big "GRAND OPENING! banner???? Yep, strung up between two poles.

Manufacturers' local rep saw it, and by the end of the week I was informed they were not going to warrant their stuff.

thanks for the replys.

I havent seen anything other than wind load data on the mfgr's data. I'm thinking I won't find any side load ratings listed for standard pole ass'ys- was just looking for some real world experience with this.

But thinking about it more, it seems like I'd need some actual engineering data liability-wise.
