I installed a service Friday, and had a heckuva time trying to find enough materials. So I called a POCO planner to ask about mixing RMC and EMT, and explained how...

EMT out of hub and up past first bend, with compression connector, into RMC threaded coupling. RMC from there starting with a threadless (compression) connector.

He first said the RMC would need to be bonded 🤔

He couldn't tell me why, and came to agree with it.

Curious....have you ever mixed EMT and RMC on a single run? Do you see any bonding concern?

I have done it frequently and have no issues with it. Some will say that EMT connectors are not listed to thread into a rigid coupling (nor the meter hub). I've never met anyone who actually cares about that though.

Why not jsut use all rmc? Or all emt? I'm assuming Poco wants rmc past roofline?

I had to use RMC above the roof line. I had planned on using our MC for the entire run, but I had to cut the pipe into various lengths, thereby removing the threads and requiring threadless connectors, which I could not find enough of.

Well, that was the planner's assessment, that nobody would even notice. And if they did, they wouldn't even care.

I just couldn't get with his assessment that the RNC would have to be bonded because it would have EMT between the meter and the RMC.

I thought, if the EMT is considered bonded all by itself, and the RNC is considered bonded all by itself, why wouldn't it be bonded if they are mixed?

The RMC was only required for rigidity to go above the roof line

Had to think a bit then figured this must be voice to text translation for RMC.

Sounds like you need threading equipment, even just a hand threader if you don't need to do this very often. Looks like you know what you are doing with all rigid couplings vs mix with compression fittings.

Yes, my dumb talk-to-text got me again, and I didn't catch it until the edit window had closed.

I don't wanna thread pipe 😭😭
🤣🤣🤣😁😁

Seriously though, I've just about banished outside work and POCO interaction from my repertoire. But a hand threader could come in handy occasionally.
