Overloading utility provider transformer. Is this a good idea?

have someone who knows how run a service load calculation and send that to the utility. they can decide what they want to do with it. that's what they are going to do anyway.

Yep, just run a proper 220 calc. and move on. The rest is on the POCO to decide how to interpret the calc for their purposes. They usually get it right.

That don't mean you shouldn't contact them if you know you will be adding to what your past demand was.

If your usage slowly increases over time they probably notice and take action when they feel is necessary. If you suddenly add a lot of load, you could end up opening protection devices, burn up equipment, or at very least get a high demand charge on your bill.

Another issue with application of 220 is O/L protection device on consumer side is larger and on POCO side, if there is one, smaller with the result POCO O/L device operates for consumer side fault instead of consumer O/L device.

I think utilities protect their transformers at quite a high rating so I don't think that would be an issue.

Still no feedback from OPer on what his actual measured load looks like.

Thank you for all of the helpful responses. After reading and talking to a few people we have decided to be patient and do things through the proper channels.

Dang. I was looking forward to some potential fireworks. :(

space_cat still has not provided any information on how much load he is actually putting on the present transformer, and how much additional load is expected. And I mean actual load, not some bloated value.
