I have been reading the comments about by opinion with the plumber, very interesting. I guess my point is this, for this situation, the plumber I spoke of I have known for years and he had/has a good business. He has1 box truck for material and to pull his mini-excavator and 2 service vans. He had all this before he went with a franchise. The only change I have seen is new signage on the trucks and a large rate increase. Maybe the franchise opened his eyes to his prices. Maybe the franchise with higher prices will shut him down, who knows. All I do know is that for my area I would not consider a franchise business. I cannot see sending money that could be mine to some one else for there name on a truck. I get to know my customers they get to know me. They know when they call I will be there when I say I will or if something really bad goes wrong they will get a phone call. This is my best advertising. For some one who is in a large market it may be the way to go.People will look up a catchy name in the phone book and start calling. And if they have heard the ad's on radio or TV then it will probably be the first one they call. It in no way means they will not get a hack or some one getting their foot in the door to up sell every thing from a service upgrade to a recessed light over the cat pan but that is another story:grin:
