TONYI,yes if gauged on rough in, yes the panel would be flush.This came about in a sub-division I took over last June.Panels back to back on a block wall 2 x 4 p.t. on sides of the panels.PT`s
noiminal dimension is 3 3/4 So when installed on the sides of a 4 in. panel there is 1/4 of drywall that extends beyond the face of the panel.Factor in corner bead,drywall mud = the senario I had.There was no time to do anything but rip the drywall of the face of the 2x4 and get the backcharges. :roll:

Allen, who framed around the panel ? your men or GC. Have seen this go both ways and usually the electrician gets stuck with the carpenters job.

Jim the rough in crew installs the PT on rough in.
We follow the framers...The only time they are after us is to do punch outIE: rip wires out,cut wires and well you know :D

For $1,000 I think I'd have scribed a line around the cover, recessed it out with a rotozip/chisel/surform and got some of that fake foam oak trim and put a "oops frame" around it. For the bonking you guys took, it would have paid for several nice compound mitre saws :D

I imagine a surface cover and some trim would have worked too...

Allen i kinda figured this since they are track homes.Have had many that we frame around.The 3 3/4 seems a bit wide,usually PT is used for the bottom plate on concrete floors and would be same 3 1/2.I thought they were exactly the same as studs 3 1/2.Was this maybe 5/8 drywall?We have had a few that turned out like your saying,usually not more than 1/4 inch.And they all passed.Sounds to me like the drywall finisher built the mud up at the opening.Maybe his bead wasn't tight,they usually feather it from the bead to opening.I know your men could have ripped the studs,but we never had too.Any chance these were wet PT and just a bit wider till they dry out.Any chance what the used was pallet wood that is rough cut?We all usually Tap Con panel to wall and then screw studs to its sides.Has worked for years and thousands of panels.Am curious why they are picking on your jobs over things we both know usually pass on others.This is not a place to use names so feel free to e mail or call me.The $1000 seems a bit high for a 2 hour patch.Most drywall companies don't slam the EC as they know we could charge them when they cover our outlets.

Just as an update,I met with the inspector today,showed him the code refrence,and after a bit of discussion, he agreed and passed the job.

Russel great.Jim take a 2x4 pt and a 2x4 spruce and see the difference !!!!!!!I didn`t ask for this situation it was thrust in my lap.Since there were around 40 closings in a 2 week period
it was simpler to just get it passed and deal with the aftermath later.My problem was that there were almost 100 homes in progress what was going to be with them ????I contacted the Chief and he let all inprogress to go with what was.Still cost a $1,000.00 to do it :roll:
