Here are some panels I saw at a mall. I wonder how they ever got approved?

Re: Panel height

Nope -- the mall specializes in Big & Tall shops. There's an exception to the 2-meter rule in commercial buildings if all the stores are Big & Tall shops.

Code reference? Um, it's in the back somewhere...

I have a hard time believing a DIY would be able to pull off something like this. Other than the height issue, the rest of it looks OK to me (admittedly, I don't do commercial work).

My suspicion is that it was done by a pro, but without pulling a permit since he knew the panels would be too high to pass inspection.

Re: Panel height

I think the DIY was a joke. Read the neutral on ground thread by Rexmaster

Re: Panel height

I'll play devil's advocate. They tore down the mezzanine when they installed those double doors as a remodel item.

Re: Panel height

I think the picture is upside down and someone hung a ladder on the ceiling and as some sick joke  , I suspect Luke Skywalker as he left his light saber on the floor  .

Re: Panel height

Maybe done without the first permit ergo no inspection ergo no NEC ergo later down the road it will be grandfathered in.Isn`t the grandfather clause a horrible thing

Re: Panel height

Maybe the line on the wall, even with the top of the orange stick and bottom of the frames, is a high-water mark in a flood zone.

Maybe?

Re: Panel height

Perhaps they had a platform that is now removed.Could be a flood area.As far as grandfathering, there is a catch in that it had to be legal at the time of install. So chances are high it was never legal

I don't see how a platform could have been installed, as the live door would have hit it. I'm still sticking with flood zone. :)

Re: Panel height

Looks like a large commercial Bldg. to me probably a Hospital.I can hear the contractors during the inspection now.

Where going to rebuild the cat walk. We'll make that last piece at the doors so you can raise it up and down.

If they don't you can see the headline of their newspaper now.

Re: Panel height

Anyway, there is a ladder present. Doesn't that make the panels accessible? ;)
