Today I mounted a small 100A subpanel in the utility closet of a single family home to accomodate extra circuits added. There is an on-demand flash water heater to be mounted in the same utility room.

It is a tight fit in there, and the closest edge of my panel is 30" to the closest edge of where the water heater is to be..The plumber says my panel might be too close to his water heater, and I contend the opposite...The GC didn't call me back yet...what do you guys think?

nor am I..

nor am I..

You'd like the way he put it.."You can't be able to ground out on sumthin' when workin' on the panel or the heater."

I try not to think, but if you ask me, you and the plumber should have hashed this out with each others requirements before installing the equipment...

I agree. To describe the complex situation in which I work would take a long time. Bottom line, he doesn't know what his requirements are, and all I know is what I am bound to in the NEC, of which there is always a learning process. Building codes are beyond my scope.

To be honest, I doubt that piece of equipment has any, so just meet your requirement and be done with it....

Who ever listen's to a plumber?

They seem to know that poo rolls downhill, payday's on friday, and you can "ground out" on heaters in the same room as electrical equipment.

The AHJ knew of no such code preventing my install, so it's all good...
