I have had an issue arise with my local inspector about "the panel being within 5 ft. of a water source ".I can't find this in the code and would like some input .

Re: panel location

That question often comes up. The NEC doesn't forbid panels near sinks, etc. You can refer to 110.26 for clearance requirements. You should also check your local requirements, there may be additional restrictions there.

I never heard that either, but I often hear that as a comment or code issue from the inspector. Is thre an issue with conduits and water pipe run in the same chase? That's something I can't seem to find, but would like to know.

Re: panel location

lady. This is a common belief. I think it is not a code issue but one that comes from a lot of specifications that do prohibit doing this.

The best advice I can offer is to ask the Inspector, in a friendly way, to tell you the source of the requirement, given that the source is not the NEC. There may be a local code. However, one person's statement that "I just know that it is not allowed" would not be an acceptable response, and nor would "Because I said so."

Re: panel location

I agree with charlie b, ask him for a code section, which he is required to give you.

Re: panel location

No apology needed. We all see new questions within the posted questions. And we're all here to learn.

Re: panel location
