Panel Placement

I'm aware of the maximum height for panels and although the code does not specify a minimum, is there a standard of practice for the minimum height in a finished bedroom?

i went on a service call once and found two panels from a 400a service literally on the floor in a 2' closet. "Proudly Installed By Mr. (insert nat'l franchise here)".

In a mobile home, it's 24". For practical reasons, there is no min height. Sufficiently large panels and cabinets are designed to sit right on the floor.

Thank you all for your information. We have a house under construction that the electrician placed the panel about 3.5' above the floor. It is per code, but seems like it would be an inconvenience to the homeowner being that low and limit the use of wall space in the bedroom.

You never know how tall the HO is.

I would put it that low also, this way the dresser will completely hide it.

Is the home being built for a handicapped owner?

I have seen a few homes and appartments with the electrical panels mounted low for handicapped accessibility.

I did a retirement building, and we put each appartment's panel 48" to the top. (Everything was designed for handicaped)

I did enjoy being able to cut 22 panels in while sitting. :D

It would make it nice to be able to make up a panel while sitting down.;)

It was. It was better to have the boss walk in, see me sitting down while working (a BIG pet peeve of his) and grumble, "Well, I guess you really can't do them standing", and leave me alone. :D

I just want to know what it cost to get that national franchise out to put two large panels into a house, but the answer would belong in that general purpose catch all topic spot I guess.
