Does the 6ft height rule applies for all disconnect switches and over current protection devices?

Do you mean the 6'7" rule found in 240.24(A) and 404.8(A) or the 6' rule found in 110.26(F)(1)?

Thanks Bryan,

I hear this all of the time and simply quote the Articles you mentioned. Also, I hear 6'-6" a lot.....where did that one come from?

My guess is it came from...."who in the heck came up with 6'7"?"

6' 6" is the mininum headroom. 6'7" is the max height for a disconnect, to the center of the operating handle in the on position.

I was told that the 6 ft 7 in rule works to an even metric number I don't do metric.

2 meters.

Because the NEC is an international standard, the metric is becoming more emphasized. IMO.

I think it is used in 7 other countries? 8?

I hope not. As Bryan mentioned art. 240.24 talks of 6'7" but allows access by portable means for equipment discos. Thus if there is a furnace above a dropped ceiling then the disco would be allow there.
