You could consider putting Sonex (sp) or Homasote (sp) on the inside of the door or maybe on the outside to dampen the sound.

The suspicions of the others were correct. They want a contactor with no audible 'hum', and the sound of it snapping in isn't a concern. Good for me, in that case. I can deal with that request much more easily. Still weird, though, because it will be in a small mechanical room with 2 transformers that might both hum.

Yes, but transformers hum in harmony, while contactors hum out of tune. If we could only teach them the words. :roll:
