hey guys why is it a bad idea again to create multi paths to ground?... ie separately grounding each panel instead of running the neutral to one central point?

thnx

It may not be a bad idea. Unlike grounded conductor paralleling, there should be no 'normal' current on GEC's.

Often, we have the option of single or multiple GEC pathways, and cost may be the deciding factor.

Parallel neutrals 1/0 and above OK, multiple paths a BIG NO NO.
But only on the load side of the service disconnect. It is the normal installation on the line side.

Ground Curent

Multiple ground-neutral bonds will lead to unbalance current flowing on the ground path. This can be conduit, metal enclosures, etc. These enclosures are not designed for this current. Since any such current also leads to voltages, unsafe conditions can occur. If the neutral opens, all unbalane current will try to flow on the ground, possibly leading to equipment being at phase voltage. One and only one neutral-earth/ground bond.
