Parallel runs of URD?

I was calling a material list into the shop, and at the end I requested 2 80' cuts of 250 MCM URD. My boss asked what for, and I said, the service.

He said that since the 250 URD has a derated neutral, I couldn't use it in a parallel installation. Is that right?

I've always found URD easier to pull in conduit...

He is right, it does have a derated neutral but it is larger than 1/0 so it can meet the requirements of 310.4. I don't see a problem except the cable is not a listed cable for use as a service cable. If it is listed as USE cable, you are set. We use URD cable all the time but it is not normally listed (I have seen some shipped in to us that has a USE/XHHW-2 marking and it is listed).

I think we must normally get the XHHW-2 kind.

I didn't see a problem with it, but wasn't sure. Thanks!
